Lake View High School and Vicente Ramos Awarded Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Community Connector Award

In between the first and second quarter of the Lake View High School football game against Andrews on Friday, November 7, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Optimum presented the Community Connector Award to Vicente Ramos in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the Northside community.

The LVHS Chiefs were one of ten schools selected for the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Community Connector Award presented by Optimum. As part of the recognition, Optimum donated $1,000 to the Lake View football program in Mr. Ramos’s honor, reflecting the company’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities they serve.

Mr. Ramos, owner of VRamos Roofing & Seamless Gutters, has been a longtime supporter of both Lincoln Middle School and Lake View High School, particularly their Mariachi programs. His involvement has provided vital resources and encouragement to programs that celebrate culture and enrich the student experience.

“Lake View is part of my story,” Mr. Ramos said. “One of my kids attended Lake View, and my brother teaches at both Lake View and Lincoln Middle School. Supporting the school felt natural — it’s part of my immediate community.”

When asked about his proudest moment in the Lake View community, he added, “Watching the Mariachi program flourish and knowing VRamos Roofing played a role in that growth. It’s rewarding to see students gain confidence and the school receive positive attention because of the culture we’re helping preserve and promote.”

Reflecting on what makes the Northside community so special, Mr. Ramos said, “There’s a strong sense of pride and unity here. Seeing programs like Mariachi grow and bring recognition to the school makes me proud to be part of something bigger than myself.”

Through his generosity and commitment, Mr. Ramos exemplifies what it means to be a true community connector — someone who uplifts students, celebrates culture, and strengthens the bonds between schools and the community.

Lake View Head Football Coach Hector Guevara echoed these sentiments, highlighting Mr. Ramos’s lasting impact.

“Our Community Connector is Vicente Ramos. He is a pillar in our community and has been instrumental in supporting the growth of our Mariachi Band program, which is led by his brother,” Coach Guevara said. “Vicente helps promote the program, encourages community involvement, and regularly supports local events, making a strong impact on students and families alike.”

Coach Guevara also emphasized how Mr. Ramos’s values align with the lessons he hopes to instill in his athletes.

“We talk about the importance of showing pride in our culture and community,” he said. “Our team represents the community by being respectful, supportive, and involved in local events — from school activities and cultural celebrations to supporting programs like the High School and Mariachi Bands. It’s important because it helps them grow into responsible, respectful, and caring leaders. When young men learn to give back, they understand the value of community, gratitude, and service. It builds character and teaches them they have the power to make a positive difference.”

Describing the Northside community, Coach Guevara said, “Our school and community are like a big family. Everyone supports one another, and there’s a strong sense of pride in our culture and traditions. Programs like our Mariachi Band bring people together and celebrate who we are. Staying connected to my community means staying grounded in where I come from and giving back to the people who helped shape me. It’s about building relationships, showing up for others, and being part of something bigger than myself.”

San Angelo ISD thanks Mr. Ramos, Dave Campbell Texas Football, and Optimum for their ongoing support and dedication to public education and the West Texas community.
