SAISD Board Trustee Ami Mizell-Flint Selected for Leadership Program

SAISD Board Trustee Ami Mizell-Flint Selected for Leadership Program

San Angelo ISD proudly celebrates our Board Trustee Ami Mizell-Flint for her selection by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) for the Leadership TASB class of 2022, a year-long education leadership study program. Class members are selected for demonstrated leadership in their local district and communities, and for their representation of the diversity of Texas school districts. Mrs. Mizell-Flint is now in her 10th year of servant leadership on the SAISD School Board. As part of the TASB leadership program, throughout the year she will join 35 other school board members from across Texas in working toward earning Master Trustee status - the highest designation recognized by TASB.

“Ami cares deeply about our community, and is a tireless advocate for students. She understands the powerful impact of a public education system and the many benefits it provides future Texans. Her involvement in local, state and national organizations allows her to bring back best practices and develop a network of support to benefit the youth of San Angelo,” said Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff. “Elected local officials are perhaps the most critical aspect of our democracy. Leaders like Ami Mizell-Flint who have a heart to serve others and a commitment to lifelong learning exemplify the spirit of public service. Through her efforts, SAISD is able to provide a meaningful and inspiring educational experience.”

The TASB leadership program kicked off in September 2021 in conjunction with the Texas Association of School Administrators where Mrs. Mizell-Flint and fellow program members received training and heard from speakers on the characteristics of effective leadership, team building and other facets of education. She will participate in leadership program sessions through July 2022. Sessions will have unique themes that build on prior program sessions and feature nationally-recognized experts in the fields of leadership development and education. As part of the program, Mrs. Mizell-Flint will also commit additional personal time to work on extended learning assignments between sessions. In addition to her experience on the SAISD Board, Mrs. Mizell-Flint will also bring her experience as Director at San Angelo Clubhouse, a MHMR of the Concho Valley Program supporting adults battling mental illness and as a mother of two current SAISD students and two SAISD alumni to her role on the leadership program. SAISD extends our gratitude to Mrs. Mizell-Flint for her commitment and dedication to our students and the future of San Angelo, as well as for generously volunteering her time to grow in her Board Trustee role through the Leadership TASB program.

SAISD invites our students, staff and our Concho Valley Community to join in celebrating Mrs. Mizell-Flint and our other six SAISD School Board Trustees this January as part of School Board Month, including Lanny Layman, Bill Dendle, Lupita Arroyo, Dr. Taylor Kingman, Max Parker and Gerard Gallegos. Each January, School Board Month serves to encourage all Texans to recognize and celebrate the work and success of our school board members and pay tribute to the role they play in our community and schools. Follow the San Angelo ISD Facebook, Twitter, and website to see some ways we show appreciation of these elected officials who serve our community in an unpaid position, and join us in thanking our SAISD School Board Trustees. Our Board Trustees are shining examples of how at SAISD, our people make the difference.
